Measuring Straps

First identify the attachment style and strap width. Measure an intact original strap from attachment point to attachment point or measure the complete path around the furniture frame. Include any single-wrap or double-wrap sections and confirm the appropriate stretch allowance before ordering.

An intact, unstretched original strap can provide a useful template. When the old vinyl is stretched, cracked, broken, or distorted, measure the furniture frame and attachment points instead. Comparing both measurements provides the most reliable result.

Replacement vinyl normally needs to be shorter than the complete frame measurement because it is installed under tension. A reduction of approximately 10% to 15% is commonly used as a starting range, but the correct amount depends on the vinyl, strap width, frame, attachment style, and supplier instructions.

Follow the entire route of the strap around both frame rails, including both wraps on each side. Measure from the starting attachment point to the ending attachment point. Do not measure only the open distance between the rails.

Common replacement strap widths include 5/8 inch, 1 inch, 1.5 inches, and 2 inches. Measure edge to edge across a flat section of an existing strap and confirm the selected product is available in that width.

Not always. Tapered chair frames, curved backrests, chaise lounges, ottomans, and loveseats can use several different strap lengths. Measure every visibly different section and label the measurements before ordering.

A badly broken or stretched strap should not be used as the only template. Measure from the frame attachment points, inspect another intact strap, and photograph the wrapping and attachment style.

Pre-cut straps are convenient for smaller projects because the cutting step is completed for you. Vinyl by the roll may be more practical for large sets, commercial furniture collections, or projects with many different measurements.

Custom-cut products are generally made according to the measurements submitted and may be nonreturnable. Verify the strap width, length, attachment style, quantity, and color before placing your order.
